ARI shows transit workers how to avoid ‘death by PowerPoint’

Morrisville, North Carolina – American Research Institute, Inc. (ARI), recently joined transit professionals, university faculty, and consultants in presenting at the Annual Transit Trainers’ Workshop held in Minneapolis, Minnesota (October 21-24, 2007). The Transit Trainers‘ Workshop is the only national event focused on training in the transit industry. Over 200 transit professionals involved in human resources, operations, maintenance, and safety training attended.

In keeping with the overall conference theme of “Catch the Future of Transit Learning”, Rhonda Harmon, Chief Learning Officer at ARI, presented a session entitled “No More Death by PowerPoint”. She shared examples of ARI project work and techniques in building classroom presentations to fully engage students.

Audience response units were distributed to all session attendees and each person had the opportunity to interact with the session leader and fellow participants through the use of this technology. The result – a lively and highly interactive workshop that illustrated the use of innovative design and delivery far beyond the traditional classroom environment.

In 2006, ARI introduced PowerMeetings™, a service designed to generate excitement, involvement, and results for training events. “We felt that the Transit Trainers’ Workshop would be an excellent opportunity to showcase this service offered by ARI and the response was very positive”, said Harmon.
